meet prue, founder of rocc

What do you have for breakfast?

Espresso and a smoothie. I love a coffee as soon as I wake, and follow up with a protein smoothie around 9am.

Why did you start ROCC?

During my first pregnancy, I switched from a regular chemical toothpaste to a natural toothpaste. I couldn’t find a natural toothpaste I liked – it didn’t leave my mouth fresh, the aesthetic was terrible, but the gobsmacking issue in the oral care industry, was sustainability. Everything on the supermarket aisle was going to landfill for 500 year – toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwash. I saw a need for change so I set out to make a toothpaste that was sustainable, that nourished, and took pride of place on a bathroom sink.

What is your biggest health non-negotiable?

I like to keep my health routine simple – my negotiables are eating loads of good quality vegetables, moving daily, and writing in my gratitude journal. I find by the end of week – even if it’s been an insane week – my body still feels energised and healthy.

What is your favourite daily ritual?

It is sharing breakfast with my 2-year old daughter, it’s giggle-filled. It’s the best way to start the day before I dive into a full workday.

What is your biggest indulgence?

I have a young family and even younger business. My biggest indulgence is taking Prue time. This is usually a yoga class or a glass (or two) of wine with friends.  For a long-time I felt guilty about doing this.  But I’ve learnt it helps me find balance and be recharged as a Mum and Boss.

What does luxury mean to you?

We’ve just finished a four-month lockdown in Melbourne, so at this present moment, luxury is freedom of choice. Freedom to see friends, luxury is taking my daughter to visit her grandparents at their farm, luxury is being about to have big family weekends together, luxury is booking a trip for the long weekend.

What does sustainability mean to you?

I grew up on a working farm near Daylesford. My Dad was very conscious of looking after the land, long before it was a popular belief, or a word you could bid on in Google.

The values of using what you need, never wasting, and protecting your environment were ingrained in me at a young age.

Sustainability today, as I live the city of Melbourne, is about being conscious of what you consume and understanding the lifestyle of the purchase – where will it end up? can it be reused ? or re-filled? It’s about making better choices, every day, to reduce our impact on the earth.
